I woke up this morning and realized that I wanted more out of my abilities. I honestly felt that I had hit a plateau in my skill set and knew the only way to push past it, was to make myself push past it. No one is going to motivate you more than yourself.

So, I decided the best way for me to push myself as a photographer, was to brand myself better. I felt like I had a great name, and I do believe in my ability to push the shutter button, but I was lacking in “branding.” As a photographer, you cannot live without Lightroom and Photoshop. And to be quite honest, you can do just about everything with Photoshop. But, if you want to go further with logos and branding, you have to use Illustrator.

I had attempted to use Illustrator a few years ago, but I really didn’t care. I was more focused on photos and videos at the time. It was recently that I realized how important branding actually is. Branding is that thing that people associate with the most when it comes to a product or service. With that in mind, I started teaching myself Illustrator this weekend. I am so stoked at how far I have come in the past few days. I have already designed a logo for a friend of mine, and a few fun promos for myself, including the one attached to this blog. This photo was taken last year in New York City during Bridal Week. The model was not only stunning, but also had a great personality. And that hair…what?! What I wouldn’t do to be able to grow an afro!!

So, to be honest, I don’t know where this new skill is going to take me, but I am truly excited because it means that I have one more tool to be successful. What is the moral of all of this? Sometimes you have to try something new, in order to pull you out of the mundane.
